Stories have existed since people started pronouncing the first words and visual art even before. Stories around the fire, stories to make people scared or obedient, stories of ancestors, oral tales and finally written stories. Cave art, sculpture, painting. And yet little has been said about literature and its relation to visual art. This talk explores how literature has historically inspired visual art, and how the written word has always gone hand-in-hand with the visual image. Secondarily, we will explore how museums handle literature and the roles literature plays in this context.
